Broker's Comments
I first discovered the Contessa 26 when reading Peter Hancock's "Sailing Out of Silence" trilogy, which recount his world circumnavigations in his Contessa 26, Kylie. It was clear that here was a very compact cruiser with a reputation for astonishing sea-worthiness. This particular vessel has an interesting history: the bare hull was bought from the builders in 1972 by the current owners and fitted out by them in its entirety, and in regular consultation with the designer and originating yard. She was launched in 1976. The result is that the interior has a wonderful wood feel, with bespoke drawers and cupboards. The cockpit too, is all wood, with beautifully varnished and solid timber hatch covers. For examples of the workmanship, look at the photos of the glasses cabinet, the two-tier tool chest drawer, and the thwart seat that slides out from under the chart table. The wooden roller-reefing boom is cunningly shaped to progressively take up the fullness in the sail as it reduces in area. Now the owners are each approaching twice the age of the boat, they have decided to give some other lucky person the opportunity to own this excellent pocket cruiser and benefit from the care and effort devoted to her construction and maintenance
