Broker's Comments
For Sale as a Project Boat
The current owners do not have the time to undertake the works alongside other work and family commitments.
This Contessa 32 is for sale as a project boat. The owners advise requiring the following works
• Repairs to leading edge of keel
• Replacement of missing cap rail (Replacement pre-formed teak cap rail included in the sale) and broken taff rail
• Remove, refurbish and reseal all windows (set of new inter-screws included)
• Repair to sprung stringers to fore cabin, port side, mast step area and starboard quarter berth (See Jim Abernethy Survey Report)
• Replacement of damaged sections of roller furling luff spar and worn gooseneck (Fairley Rigging quotation available upon request)
• Repairs to genoa luff, currently with Saturn Sails
• Sealing of handrails, cap rails and oiling of cockpit teak.
Cosmetically she would also benefit from:
• Fair and repainting of the Topsides and deck (currently International Mediterranean White, believed to be a 2 packs system applied c 1998)
• Re-bedding and caulking the teak cockpit seats.
The current owners bought her in July 2019 with a view to cruising the coast of Britain & Ireland. After a summer in the Inner Hebrides she was brought to Fairlie Quay for a refit addressing all the issues raised in the Pre-purchase Survey Report including:-
• Replacement of the cooker with a stainless steel 2 burner hob plus oven & grill
• Complete replacement and certification of the gas installation
• Complete replacement of standing rigging including inner forestay and all turnbuckles and most of the running rigging
• Replacement of the anchor locker bulkheads and relining the fore cabin
• Replacement of original navigation instruments with a NMEA 2000 network (see inventory below)
• Exhaust Fitting re-bedded and hose replaced
Covid restricted cruising in 2020 and 2021 however, she was moved to her new home in Caernarfon and cruised the Irish Sea while preparing to cruise around Britain in 2022. Early in 2022 these plans changed when she was entered in the RWYC Round Britain & Ireland 2 Handed Race (a World Sailing Category 2 race). She went on to take 6th place overall taking new records for Youngest Skipper (20) Youngest Team (19 & 20) and youngest female entrant (19). To comply with the requirements of World Sailing Cat 2 she received the following checks and upgrades in 2022:
• Full keel and rudder survey, Mast-out rigging survey.
• Engine check, including replacement of bearers
• All electronics including alternator & engine starter professionally inspected and found sound, digital battery monitors fitted.
• Replaced Mast step with new including lashing facility for mast foot
• Port cap shroud U-Bolt replaced as a precaution following minor surface corrosion.
• Water hand pump added to galley sink as back up to the pressurised water system.
• WC fitted with diverter valve for use as an emergency bilge pump
• Mainsail fitted with additional high reef point (50% of luff)
Following the RB&I she completed an anticlockwise circumnavigation of Britain via the Caledonian Canal.
There is also a survey available for prospective buyers.
