Next two spots secured on ilovesailing calendar
Errol Edwards from Bristol and Shaun Roster from Southsea, Hampshire have clinched the next two spots on the 2019 ilovesailing calendar.
The two winning entries were chosen from amongst 33 fantastic black and white images submitted in April, with images ranging from spectacular racing shots, to atmospheric seascapes.
Commenting on his win Errol said: “I’m very happy that my photo has won a spot on the next I love sailing calendar. I won a spot on the 2014 calendar (June) too which makes me feel very lucky.”
Errol’s image entitled ‘Ellie goes Solo!’ was taken at Chew Valley Lake SC on a very gusty and windy day, explains Errol. “The young lady sailing my new Solo for the very first time is Ellie Cumpsty. She is a past RYA junior champion in the Laser Radial and past member of Team GBR. Ellie will be competing at the 2018 Solo National Championships at Hayling Island in my Solo and sailing it whenever she can, allowing me time to concentrate on some more sailing photography,” Errol added.
While winner Shaun commented: “I’m delighted to win a place in the 2019 RYA Calendar, I love sailing photography and having the opportunity to share one of my images across the wider sailing community is fantastic.”
Shaun’s image entitled ‘Downwind Mark – J80 World Championships 2017 on the Solent’ was taken whilst flying along the Solent, near Cowes. Shaun explains: “I happened to see the J80 World Championship fleet heading downwind towards the bottom mark and managed to time my overhead to capture these five boats on a variety of mark rounding angles which provided dynamic interest, balance and variation to the image. It was quite a grey colourless day and the red mark stood out so well, from overhead that it had to become the main focus of the image. It was taken with a Nikon D750 DSLR.”
Errol and Shaun, not only claim their place on the calendar but also:
- Two tickets to the PSP Southampton Boat Show for the official prize giving
- Canvas print of their winning entry
- A copy of the final printed calendar
- A selection of RYA goodies
- And of course the much loved ilovesailing rubber duck – which this year is a black duck to compliment the black and white theme of the 2019 calendar!
“With such a broad variety and fantastic quality of images being submitted, judging and choosing just two winners each month is extremely difficult”, commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. “Errol and Shaun’s images really took the judges eye and will look fantastic on the final calendar.”
