Broker's Comments
Boatshed Essex are pleased to present this example of the popular Prout Event. Prout multihulls are renowned the world over for their pioneering design and production of fast, seaworthy and comfortable catamarans. Research and development sat at the heart of the Prout approach and new models only released when new innovations were sufficient to produce a positive step change in build and performance. The Event 34 was created in just this way, a higher, broader and therefore more spacious boat. The cockpit is comparatively voluminous and features the wheeled helm position and easy access to the single engine, mounted amidships and transmitting power to both a steerable and lifting sterndrive. The sterndrive has the benefit of dramatically improving close quarter maneuvering and can be lifted from the water whilst undersail, thereby reducing drag. Side decks are wide and comfortable to use and like the cockpit, the foredeck is expansive, including stowage and anchor lockers, windlass and and incredibly safe feeling platform when working up-front. The sloop rig sail plan is suited to single handed use, featuring an aft stepped main and furling genoa, which has the effect of lifting the bows higher in the water.
Down below the accommodation is spacious and comfortable, complete with a tidy finish, featuring American Cherry wood. There are three key sections, including a spacious wrap around saloon and the two hulls. Each hull features a mid section, between the reinforced bulkheads and cabins in the stern and bow. To starboard, there is an aft double cabin, galley amidships and forward double berth. The galley is uniquely fitted so the hob is set facing inwards rather than Prout’s preference of siting this under the starboard side window. This works very well and makes the galley a lot more sociable as you are facing the people you are cooking for! To port there is a second, double aft berth, large navigation station and shelving amidships and a heads in the forward cabin.
This Prout event was supplied as hulls with interior bunk and heads mouldings in place and then it was finished to a high standard by the original owner who was a shipwright. Moulded in 1992 but not launched until 1996, it has been extensively refitted by the current owner. The current owner sailed this vessel around the UK, finding the experience to be 'sure footed, seaworthy, 'blissfully easy' and a faultless boat that will be missed greatly'. This boat is an attractive option for a range of sailing purposes, with spacious accommodation, shallow draft hulls and therefore the ability to be used for extended cruising, comfortable coastal and inland trips, including the European canal system and living aboard more permanently. If this attractive boat interests you, please do contact for us further information and we would be pleased to organise a viewing for you.
