There are two models of the Rival 38 - the 38A with an aft cockpit, and the quite rare 38CK with centre cockpit and a raised coachroof section aft of the cockpit.
Rival sailing boats were designed and built as offshore cruisers. Peter Brett's own Rival 34, Wild Rival won the 1976 OSTAR single handed transatlantic race in one of roughest OSTARs on record, with only 76 finishers from 126 entries.
The Rival 38 has a fin and skeg hull which provides a blend of good performance, handling, sea-keeping qualities and benefit of dry out safely on a reasonably long keel base.
Approximately 63 Rival 38s were built and many have ventured all around the world. This particular Rival 38 CK has been cruised extensively by her current owners. They are reknown to be very sturdy. Although this vessel could do some tlc - she still appears to have many more years in her.

Broker's Comments
These boat details are subject to contract.
I am a fan of the Rival sailing boats and have spent many a season on board a Rival 32 - sailing to the Channel Isles and beyond with my children on board when they were very young. I was never worried about the vessels sea-keeping qualities and always found the Rival to be a delight to handle. This Rival 38 has a very good inventory for potential Blue-Water sailors and will appeal to those of you who are capable of carrying out some upgrades regarding the rigg and a degree of tlc. However I do think that she has many years ahead of her and on that basis is a cost effective way of making a blue water cruise dream come true.
