Broker's Comments
Boatshed Wales is delighted to present for sale this Sparkman and Stephens 34.
Famous worldwide, the S&S 34 is renowned for its style and performance. Yachting Monthly places the boat at the top of the "World's Coolest Yachts" list and notes Ted Heath's victory with Morning Cloud when he won the Sydney to Hobart race in 1969. Jessica Watson's record-breaking solo circumnavigation is another testament to the S & S 34's legacy, among many other examples. With hundreds built, only one has ever been lost at sea, earning the S&S 34 a reputation for excellent structural integrity, build strength, and heavy weather performance. To this day, it remains a yacht hard to outpace to windward.
"Eilean Mor" is no exception. Unquestionably attractive, with a graceful sheer, wineglass sections, a drawn-out counter, and distinctive tumblehome, her beauty is undeniable.
Sailed extensively by her current owner, the decision to sell is prompted by retirement from yachting. The boat requires some attention—the propeller sadly failed during her last outing and now needs to be removed and replaced at the end of the shaft. The engine has been seen to crank but not start and would benefit from a service and some fresh fuel. The interior could use a good spruce-up.
There is an extensive selection of sails, including a storm jib and main, a spinnaker, and a lightweight genoa. The boat comes with an inflatable dinghy and a 2hp Honda air-cooled outboard. The feel of the yacht is very much that of a boat used by a true sailor. Forget the microwave, TV, and champagne glasses, and think more of salty oilskins, heavy weather sailing books, and paper charts—she's no floating caravan!
We believe the price reflects the need for some investment, although this is a yacht with many more years of active use remaining and could be launched and sailed with minimal effort.
Viewing is highly recommended, especially for anyone who is not familiar with the lines of this iconic long-distance performer, unofficially crowned "The World's Coolest Yacht."
