Broker's Comments
Westerly Marine Construction Company opened their first factory in 1963, in Waterlooville near Portsmouth. Right from the start they set out to achieve Lloyds specification and 150 boats were built in the first year of production. The history of Westerly is well documented, they are well known for their huge range of solid family cruisers.
The Westerly Griffon was designed in 1979, the first by Ed Dubois and similar size and layout but a more modern version of everyone's favourite, the Centaur. A capable cruiser with a sea-kindly hull, the bilge keelers were very popular and with their roomy interiors compared to overall length they suited the move from moorings to marinas well.
On deck she is clear and uncluttered, the cockpit is safe and spacious with a good sized locker and below she has a simple, traditional layout that suits both single-handers and families alike. There's plenty of usable storage, basic but perfectly adequate galley and large dining table that stows away easily when not needed.
She's tidy and appears well kept. The canvas is in good order and sails appear clean. Below she's nice and fresh with bright upholstery and head-linings replaced at some point although as with all Westerlys this is an ongoing job!
