Broker's Comments
Founded in 1956 in Costa Mesa CA. & built at the Jensen Marine Yard, Cal Yachts started as a builder designing boats in the 24-30 ft range which had a reputation for building fast one design hulls and were very competitive for their time. Following on the heals of famous yacht designer William(Bill) Lapworth performance Cal 40' hull the 2-46 was born first as the M46 cruise then later as the Cal 2-46 initially built as a sloop & later a ketch rigged design which
became very popular as a Blue water cruiser. 95 hulls in total were built & later modified with a center midships engine compartment which made room for a larger master aft cabin & larger main salon.
Bill Lapworth having owned a 2-46 himself & cruised for several years was stated as the designers favorite boat. As a result many of the 2-46 hulls built, have circumnavigated and are still gracing the waters of marinas & oceans around the globe to this day.
Originally purchased in 2007/8 in southern California the current owners have been gradually upgrading & preparing this very well maintained Cal 2-46 Ketch ready for cruising.
Recent upgrades & improvements include;
Tides track system to both main & mizzen masts. New electric windlass & designated battery & remote control. All interior paint & varnish refinished.
As experienced Yachtsman both owners have sailed extensively on the West coast for the past 25 yrs and have crewed and/ or delivered other boats between San Diego, CA & Alaska and out as far as the Hawaiian Islands on a TransPac Race.
Their plan's to move the boat in 2017 to the Texas Gulf Coast were later thwarted by hurricane Harvey, although only sustained minor damaged they continue to make the necessary upgrades to the boat for cruising. The owners have meticulous records & documentation of all the upgrades carried out onboard which are available upon request. Due to health reasons the owners plans have recently changed, forcing the Sale of this Beautiful Classic.
